Oh the advancements we’ve experienced! It’s pretty incredible to think…
Straighteners, curling irons, and blow dryers are hair styling tools most women use daily to make our hair look its best. However, using these tools improperly can cause damage and leave your hair looking less than gorgeous. Like anything else in life, using the right tools the right way is what will give you the results you desire. Let’s break down a few of the must-know tips to help you avoid heat damage on your hair from heated styling tools.
Make Sure Your Hair is Dry
When you’re using a straightener or curling iron you want to be sure your hair is completely dry before using these styling tools. Using these types of tools on your hair before it’s completely dry can cause extreme damage to your hair. If/when possible, let your hair air dry before using straighteners and curling irons to minimize the amount of heat on your hair.
Prep Your Locks
Just like you need to make sure your hair is completely dry before using heating tools, it’s helpful for your hair’s health to use hair care products that help with protection. There are products like hair serums that are created to help keep your hair healthy when styling with heated tools. Depending on what type of styling you plan on doing to your hair (curling vs. straightening), choose your hair care product(s) accordingly. Often there are products specific for straightening to help you have a lasting straight outcome. Similar to purchasing quality styling tools, it’s just as important to buy quality hair care products. Invest in quality products that are the right formulas for your hair and the style you’re looking to achieve.
It’s easy for us to feel like we don’t need to invest in a higher quality styling tool, but it’s incredibly important to your hair’s health. One key factor when looking to purchase a new curling iron and/or straightener is to make sure it has adjustable temperature settings. This will allow you to adjust the temperature for your hair. If you’re looking to purchase a hair dryer, be sure it has a nozzle attachment or at least the ability to add one. Like so many other purchases we make, buying quality is crucial with this type of purchase.
Don’t Over Do It
Using heated styling products can definitely be trying on your hair, try to choose 1-2 days throughout the week that you don’t use them on your hair. It’s nice to give your hair a break from heat styling so that it has a chance to breathe and just be.
All in all, it’s extremely important that you invest in quality tools and hair care products to help avoid as much damage as you can when it comes to your hair. Remember that the way you treat your hair now is important in the long term, similar to skin care! Do yourself a favor and don’t skimp on treating your hair with the care it needs and deserves now, you will thank yourself in the long run.
