Caring For Your Skin When You Live Near The Equator

Do you live near the equator? If so, we certainly don’t need to be the ones to tell you it’s HOT where you live-because you’re living it! We are going to be the ones, however, to share some of our suggested tips on caring for your skin when you live near the equator. Where we live has a huge effect on our skin’s needs and struggles. Wherever you reside, there’s a different set of environmental factors to take into consideration when properly caring for our skin. It gets pretty warm throughout a lot of different locations around the world, but those living near the equator face a different extreme with the climate to consider.

Use a Cleanser with Salicylic Acid
Cleansing your skin is important regardless of the location you call home. However, when living near the equator you’re exposed to heat and humidity much more consistently. That being said, it’s common to experience an increase of breakouts and oil production in the skin (not to mention the additional sweat production). One of the best things you can do is to use the right type of cleansing product, experts suggest choosing a cleanser that lists salicylic acid as an active ingredient. Salicylic acid is a powerful ingredient in helping to gently remove excess oil from the skin surface, which can help to minimize breakouts and oil from causing issues in your skin.

Choose an Oil-Free Moisturizer
Even though you live in a climate that’s pretty hot and humid, it doesn’t mean that you should be skipping the moisturizing step in your skin care routine. Regardless of your skin type and how hot it may be outside, moisturizing the skin is an essential step in every skin care routine. When your skin doesn’t have enough moisture it’s difficult for it to protect itself from the elements, it’s exposed to on a daily basis and often will produce more oil to counteract the lack of moisture. The key is to choose a moisturizer that’s going to suit your skin and the climate, we suggest choosing an oil free formula to ensure you’re not adding any additional oil to your skin’s surface. This will help your skin to obtain the necessary moisture without any additional elements impacting your skin’s surface.

SPF is a Non-Negotiable
Of course, since you’re exposed to the sun on an incredibly consistent basis this means that SPF application isn’t negotiable for you. Between the sun being out more often, and at a much higher intensity, taking your sun protection seriously is crucial. Using a moisturizer with SPF built in is ideal, but we also suggest having a travel size SPF product with you to reapply throughout the day. Keep in mind that the benefits of SPF only last for 2-3 hours, which means after that your skin is exposed to the sun in a damaging manner. Re-applying throughout the day is going to help tremendously with maintaining skin health and protection.
