If you’re raising daughters, you know it can be stressful…
Random acts of kindness…they’re always such a powerful way to brighten your day, aren’t they? It’s always so nice to watch, give or experience a random act of kindness. We’re going to go ahead and guess you weren’t aware that there’s actually a day dedicated to random acts of kindness, were you? Well there is! This year it’s happening on Friday, February 17, 2017. Because random acts of kindness do make such a powerful statement on anyone’s day, they actually designated an entire day to celebrate it! We’re all about spreading positivity into the world, so we thought we would give you some ideas on how you can celebrate random acts of kindness day yourself this year.
First, we feel like we should establish that random acts of kindness don’t have a limit on how big or small they have to be. That’s the beauty of a random act of kindness. It’s random, and it’s just bringing some kindness into the world. We all tend to get so busy and caught up in our daily grind, it’s difficult sometimes to realize the power of a random act of kindness. So one of the things we suggest you do, first, to celebrate random acts of kindness day is to be aware of your surroundings throughout the day. If we all just took a few minutes to look up from our phone screens when we’re out and about and look around, you’d be surprised at what you notice – and who looks like they could use a little pick-me-up.
Anytime you give a random act of kindness to a total stranger, you likely don’t realize how much you could make their day. Paying for the person behind you in line at the coffee shop, or giving change to the person you see on the same corner every morning you walk to work. Little things, that seem little, are really what this day is all about. Just make a conscious effort to be aware of your surroundings on this day, see where you have an opportunity to drop a random act of kindness onto a stranger that you come in contact with throughout the day. And again, remember that there’s no act too small or large.
Furthermore, take a moment to think about a friend or coworker you haven’t really had the opportunity to connect with recently. Ask them to go to lunch or coffee, and treat them! Sometimes we take those that we’re close to for granted and don’t really make as much of an effort to show them random acts of kindness either. Send an e-gift card for their favorite coffee shop, MAIL them a letter. The options really are limitless here.
Really, it’s important to remember the point of random acts of kindness day. And that’s to show and spread more kindness into the world to anyone you feel drawn to do so with. It’s important to realize that random acts of kindness really should come from a selfless place, you’re spreading kindness…but don’t expect anything in return. Even if someone does return the favor, do the act because it felt good and right to you in that moment.
